Oregon Leads the Way in Legalizing Magic Mushrooms for Therapeutic Use

On January 1st, 2023, Oregon made history by becoming the first state in the United States to legalize the adult use of psilocybin mushrooms! This monumental policy shift, known as Measure 109, allows for the creation of psilocybin service centers where anyone over the age of 21 can consume the mushrooms in a supervised setting, with the guidance of a state-certified facilitator. This is an incredible opportunity for people to explore the therapeutic potential of psychedelics, which have shown promise in treating severe depression, PTSD, and even alcohol-use disorder. Although the sale of psilocybin will not be allowed at retail, this is still a major victory for drug reform supporters and a step towards changing the way society views these substances. It is hoped that this groundbreaking decision in Oregon will inspire other states and municipalities to follow suit and encourage federal authorities to ease longstanding prohibitions.
